Steps to Building A Limb

This is the first step in making a laminated recurve limb. In this picture I am drawing a center line down my limb to help me keep track of where to drill my limb bolt holes later in the process.

In this picture I am appling glue to ever piece of wood and bo tuff glass composed in the limb.

Here I am tighting the bow press to keep my limb componets in line.

Finnaly I put the limb in to the home made oven for 4 hours.

This is the final product.

My First Complete Duck Call

This is my first complete duck call that i have made. To accent the call I soldered a flat piece of brass together and made a collar. Hopefully on my next one I will have a better and more inovated way of making the accent collar…

Making limbs

I have now officially completed both of my limbs for my bow. Meaning I laminated them. I am now ready to sand and cut my limbs. First I will need to get all excess glue that has gotten on my limbs from the lamination process. Then I will need to get my paterns for the shape of my limb. Once I have that i will be able to cut a rough shape of my limb. Then I will be sanding the rest to create a smooth surface.

Bow Building

Last week I laminated one of my bow limbs. The limb was made out of one parellel taper laminated maple, one regular laminated maple, one limb wedge and two Bow Tuff laminated glass. The glue I used was a two part epoxy called Smoothon. Starting out I put a layer of glue on every part of the limb. Then I put them in order and put them in the bow press. From there they went to the oven for about five hours.

Making Duck Calls

With our instructor we have been making wooden duck calls. We have been learning about every single part of the call. We even constructed are own metal mandrels to hold the calls in the laythe. I have been practicing laything and have laythed my first part of the two sections. The peice of wood that I used was a laminate. The laminate seems to be tuff as a whole but when it gets layhted it breaks. Hopefully we will be able to construct a two peice duck call.
